Starting out from humble beginnings in the fish and chip shop trade in Handsworth, growing up in a diverse and multicultural city Panikos learnt from a young age that food can unite people from all from all walks of life. Founder of LGK in the Community, in which is a charity in memory of his late father Lakis Panayiotou who was also known for his ability to unite communities using the universal language of food. Panikos is the head of sports development for Birmingham City Council and is involved in a wide range of programmes across the region which range from sport, capital development and community infrastructure support. As the master mind behind the This Is My City concept Panikos believes that the city is supported by the pillars of migrant success, and that this should be celebrated through food, sport and music collectively. Understanding each other helps us better understand ourselves.
LGK in the community which stands for Lakis Greek kitchen in the Community in which was set up in memory of the late Lakis Panayiotou who lost his battle with small cell lung cancer in November 2012. Lakis used the power of food to unite people and feed the needy.
To continue the legacy of the founding father of the charity LGK offers a series of community initiatives that benefit people from all walks of life. This includes food reponse programmes, family outreach and mental health support.
In addition to this service we also offer online cooking tuition which will soon be extended into an array of courses all accessible from our online portal.
